GlossarDecarbonisation

Decarbonisation

Decarbonisation is the process of cutting down or eliminating human-caused CO₂ emissions.

What is decarbonisation?

Decarbonisation refers to the process of reducing or eliminating human-caused CO₂ emissions. By reducing emissions, it significantly contributes to achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement and net-zero targets. Germany has set a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80 to 95% by 2050 compared to 1980 levels.

Measures for decarbonisation include the use of renewable energy sources, the electrification of transportation, and the promotion of energy efficiency. Additionally, regenerative agriculture can play a significant role in drastically reducing emissions from agriculture and enhancing the potential of our soils as effective carbon sinks.

The global importance of decarbonisation lies in its direct impact on climate protection and is a necessary step to secure a sustainable future and preserve the quality of life for future generations.
