GlossaryNet-Zero

Net-Zero

Net-zero aims to achieve a balance between man-made greenhouse gas emissions that are released into the atmosphere and those that are removed from it. The main objective is to ensure that the total emissions released do not exceed the amount that is removed from the atmosphere.

What is Net-Zero?

Net-zero aims to achieve a balance between the human-generated greenhouse gas emissions that are released into the atmosphere and those that are removed from it. The main goal is that the total emissions released do not exceed the amount that is removed from the atmosphere, such as through carbon storage in our soils and oceans, so that in total human activities do not cause additional greenhouse gases. With the Paris Climate Agreement of 2015, many nations around the world are striving to meet this net zero target by 2050 at the latest in order to effectively slow down climate change.

The realization of Net-Zero requires extensive measures: the drastic reduction of emissions through the increased use of renewable energy sources, the increase of energy efficiency and the development of new technologies. In addition, increased efforts to reduce CO₂ are essential, for example through regenerative agricultural practices that contribute to the storage of CO₂ in our soils.
