What is carbon farming?

Carbon farming is a Regenerative Agriculture approach aimed at increasing the carbon content of agricultural soils to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Its primary goal is to return carbon released into the atmosphere by humans back into the soil, closing the carbon cycle.

By employing practices like agroforestry, mulching, composting, crop rotation, and minimum tillage, farmers can use Regenerative Agriculture principles to sequester carbon from the atmosphere and store it in the soil. These practices not only enhance soil health but also foster biodiversity and boost resilience to extreme weather events.

Carbon farming has emerged as an additional income source for farmers who generate carbon credits, which can be sold on the voluntary carbon market.
