Carbon credits
What are carbon credits?
A carbon credit is a system where one party can compensate another for reducing, avoiding, or removing carbon emissions. Each credit represents one ton of CO₂. Klim offers two types of carbon credits generated by farmers through measures for carbon removal or greenhouse gas reduction; Klim Removal Credits and Klim Reduction Credits.
Removals:
Climate Removal Credits are generated through the sequestration of carbon in the soil, achieved by farmers implementing improved crop rotations and using organic fertilisers. Additionally, these credits account for the avoidance of natural decomposition of organic carbon in the soil compared to a baseline scenario.
Reductions:
Climate Reduction Credits result from reducing greenhouse gas emissions during the cultivation of agricultural fields. This is achieved by reducing the use of nitrogen fertilisers, minimising pesticide use, and using less intensive tillage.
