FAQs
Insetting is a strategy that enables companies to align their operations with the ecosystems they depend on by financing climate protection projects along their own value chain. These projects reduce GHG emissions and generate carbon storage while simultaneously creating positive impacts for communities, landscapes, and ecosystems.
Both offsetting and insetting support nature-based projects, but the difference is where the investment is focused.
Offsetting involves funding external projects that aren't directly connected to a company's operations, while insetting concentrates on improvements that are directly tied to the company's products or services.
Klim acts as an all-in-one project manager and supports all parties in the implementation and scaling of regenerative agriculture by:
- Managing insetting projects end-to-end
- Supporting the transformation process for farmers
- Ensuring the achievement of defined project goals
- Provide reports based on industry standards
Insetting projects are focused on preserving, enhancing, and restoring natural environments, while integrating regenerative practices into business operations. They highlight the economic advantages of investing in nature, allowing companies to weave these investments into their broader sustainability strategies and objectives.
Insetting approaches future-proof supply chains with consistent yields, enhance relationships across entire supply networks, and help achieve sustainability targets.
Insetting projects can be used to achieve SBTs if they’re taking place within a company’s supply chain or can be linked to one of its supply sheds, and fulfil the requirements from the SBTi Forest, Land and Agriculture Guidance (FLAG) as well as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Land Sector and Removals Guidance (currently under finalisation).
Scope 3 emissions are those produced throughout the entire life cycle of products and services acquired by a company, including emissions related to long-term assets and investments not directly owned or controlled by the company.
Investing in Regenerative Agriculture as part of carbon insetting helps lower emissions within a company's supply chain. Consequently, the current VCMI Scope 3 emissions guidance permits companies to include a portion of their inventory reductions through insetting projects. Thus, Klim’s insetting initiative, which involves regenerative farming practices, meets Scope 3 emission reduction requirements.
Communicating measures to promote sustainability can be a challenge, but with Klim's intervention projects you can effectively communicate the impact. We help you create a compelling storyline with exciting farmer stories, up-to-date project data and science-based facts to clearly communicate the importance of your investment.
Farmers play a crucial role, because without them, no adjustments and improvements can be made. At the same time, the integration of regenerative practices helps to secure their business model in the long term. In order to successfully implement projects together, they must be individually tailored to the requirements and needs of the farmers.
